OpenAI Releases GPT-4 for General Availability

OpenAI has announced the general availability of GPT-4, its latest text-generating model, through its API. Existing API developers can access GPT-4, and access will be expanded to new developers later this month. GPT-4 can generate text and accept image and text inputs, performing at a "human level" on professional and academic benchmarks.

However, it still has limitations and can make reasoning errors. OpenAI plans to allow developers to fine-tune GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 Turbo with their own data later this year. Additionally, OpenAI has made its DALL-E 2 and Whisper APIs generally available and will deprecate certain older models, including GPT-3, starting January 4, 2024.

Sarah Silverman Sues OpenAI and Meta for Copyright Infringement by AI Models

Sarah Silverman, along with authors Christopher Golden and Richard Kadrey, has filed lawsuits against OpenAI and Meta for copyright infringement. They claim that the AI models developed by the companies used their work without permission. The suits allege that the authors' copyrighted books were used as training material for OpenAI's ChatGPT and Meta's LLaMA models.

The authors' lawyers have received concerns from writers and publishers regarding the AI tool's ability to generate text similar to copyrighted material. Additional lawsuits have been filed against OpenAI by Mona Awad, Paul Tremblay, and Getty Images. OpenAI and Meta have not yet provided a comment.

BitMEX Co-founder Arthur Hayes: Bitcoin Will Be AI's Chosen Currency

Arthur Hayes. Source: BitMEX

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes believes that artificial intelligence (AI) will choose Bitcoin as its preferred currency for economic calculations and transactions. In an essay, Hayes outlined why Bitcoin meets the requirements of an AI payment system. He argued that AI needs a digital and automated payment system that operates 24/7, making traditional banking inadequate.

By using a blockchain-based payment system, [AI] … can also receive payments electronically in extremely small increments if needed.

Arthur Hayes

Bitcoin's blockchain enables continuous availability and small incremental payments. Its decentralized and transparent nature ensures censorship resistance. With limited supply and direct mining, Bitcoin maintains its value over time. It surpasses other cryptocurrencies, like Ethereum, in its focus on being an ideal choice for AI.

The Impact of AI-Generated Images on Trust and Truth

AI-generated images fuel concerns over trust in visual content. Deception, disinformation, and political manipulation thrive as technology outpaces detection capabilities. Companies like Getty Images and Adobe seek to protect content and establish provenance standards. Collaborative initiatives aim to trace digital media origins and educate consumers about challenges posed by AI-generated images. Trust in media and visual authenticity remains at risk in the face of advancing AI technology.

vTeam suggests you give it a try and guess which image is a real photo, and which is AI generated. Ready?

RESEARCH 👩‍🔬

Study Reveals Business Leaders' Mixed Feelings About Generative AI Despite Growing Adoption

A recent study conducted by Insight Enterprises and The Harris Poll has unveiled the increasing adoption of generative AI among businesses while also highlighting concerns about its implementation. The study found that 72% of Fortune 500 business leaders plan to incorporate generative AI within the next three years to improve employee productivity. However, approximately half of the respondents expressed reservations about deploying these technologies, citing concerns about quality and control as well as safety and security risks.

The study also revealed that business leaders anticipate specific organizational roles, such as data analysts and data scientists, to be most affected by the adoption of generative AI. Despite the optimism surrounding generative AI's potential to enhance productivity and customer service, concerns persist about workforce displacement, limitations on human innovation, budgetary constraints, and compliance with legal requirements. The study emphasizes the importance of carefully leveraging generative AI and establishing robust governance to address these concerns.

Hospitals Testing Google's Medical AI Chatbot

Google's Med-PaLM 2, an AI tool for medical information, has undergone testing at Mayo Clinic and other institutions since April. It aims to address limited access to doctors, especially in countries with fewer healthcare resources. Trained on medical expert demonstrations, Med-PaLM 2 shows promise in healthcare conversations.

However, research reveals accuracy issues common in large language models. While Med-PaLM 2 performed well in areas like reasoning and consensus-based answers, physicians found more inaccuracies compared to human doctors. Data control and encryption are emphasized in customer testing. Google sees Med-PaLM 2 as an early-stage tool with the potential to greatly enhance healthcare. Further details are being sought from Google and Mayo Clinic.
